Pumpkin Pasties
These were originally from the Hogwarts Celebrations, now appearing annually for Halloween by popular demand!
Makes about 3 dozen miniature pasties.
2 eggs, slightly beaten
3/4 cup sugar
1 1 lb. can pumpkin
(or 2 cups fresh, roasted in the oven then pressed through a strainer)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 2/3 cups evap. milk (1 can)
1/2 tsp. allspice
9 oz pie crust pastry (enough for two single standard pie crusts)
Bake the pie filling only (no crust) in a large greased casserole dish in hot oven (425F) for 15 minutes. Keep oven door closed and reduce temp to moderate (350 degrees F/180 degress Celsuis) and continue baking for 45 minutes or until table knife inserted in center of dish comes out clean. Cool on wire rack.
Make or purchase pie crust pastry. Roll thin and cut into circles approx 4" in diameter. Put a spoonful of the cool pumpkin mixture towards one side of the center of the circle. Fold over the crust into a half-circle and firmly crimp the edges closed. Slice three small slits in the top for venting, place on a greased cookie sheet, and bake only until crust is a light golden-brown. The pumpkin filling will begin to make the crust soggy, so best baked the day of serving. Can be made ahead by freezing the assembled pasties unbaked on cookie sheets, then thawed and baked the day of serving. Great served at room-temperature, then you don't have to worry about your guests possibly burning their mouths from the steaming hot pumpkin inside! :)

Primitive Pumpkin Sentinel RHP Original
You can see it took a while. It was like 11AM when I got done wrapping and making armature....I am still in jammies at this point.....I had to do this though was bugging me.....
Then I painted the armature and it being 100 degrees today, it dried quickly. Then I added his chest cavity shown here. Eventually his other parts were added but I didn't take pics as you can see what my hands looks like and they still are stained this way.....See pic below.....
Ok this is the cone he holds. it has a battery operated tea light in it. Looks kewl in the dark as I punched holes through the cone and the light peeks through them. The cone I painted orange for color and "pop" and then the holes I dotted black as well as the trim and handle....
The Pumpkin Sentinel has a full wire armature body and arms and fingers--no legs----He can be ent and posed. His armature was painted black then stained over that. It has all been wrapped in floral tape. His chest cavity is made from muslin, lightly stuffed and painted gray with black ribs then attached to the armature.
If you look at this side pic, the armature is like a hand and grabs his head, holding it in place. I also sewed it donw so it doesn't come out. Has a black grubby cheescloth cloak held by 2 rusty safety pins in the front.
The wind was blowing in this pic giving him the illusion of flying. His head is round and painted orange, his stem is twisted grubby black cheesecloth. His eyes and mouth are pieced onto the doll. Painted black and then dotted with a yellow eye if you look close. I just wanted a hint of an eye.
He has eerie grippy hands for holding things and a hanger on back for hanging in your spooky home this fall or I personally would keep him out year long........A Rabbit Hollow Prims design......

Decayed Corpse Chips and Salsa
Decayed Corpse Chips with Entrail Salsa
blue corn tortilla chips
coffin
salsa
This isn't so much a recipe as it is a creative display. Arrange the blue corn chips in a coffin in the shape of a long-dead corpse. The natural blue corn chips have almost a dusky shade of brown in them that hints of decayed skin. Serve with a nice blood-red chunky salsa as accompanying entrails.
For 1999 I got more elaborate. I found a larger coffin that happened to fit a rubber skeleton I have had for years. I lined the coffin with crushed velvet, propped up the skeleton, arranged the chips around him, and set the crystal bowl of "entrails" between his calves...yummm...
If you cannot find a coffin, find a clean plastic skull or assorted bones, put them in a large serving bowl, then arrange the blue chips around the bones as the decaying flesh!

My Swap Dollie From Victoria
One of my groups had a Halloween swap and I got this OOAk witchy in yesterday. I so love her. She has bendable fingers, nose and then in her hands she has the bat and a bag with my name on it and a head! Inside the bag is eyeballs, bones and sayings......Now what to name her? Any suggestions?

Brain Pate
Bizarre Brain Pate
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
8 ounces Philadelphia cream cheese, softened
1 (.25-ounce) envelope unflavored gelatin, softened in 1/4 cup water
1 bunch green onions, chopped
3 pounds cooked shrimp, coarsely chopped
(or 1 pound crab meat)
1 cup mayonnaise
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
Tabasco or creole seasoning to taste
Heat soup, undiluted, and mix in the cream cheese. Stir in softened gelatin and blend well. Fold in remaining ingredients and pour into a lightly-oiled mold. Chill until firm and serve with your favorite crackers.
I originally found this recipe for MardiGras 2000, which was quite yummy. When I got a brain mold for my birthday - can you tell my friends know I love Halloween? - I started thinking of what I could use for making a brain. Since the brain mold is only about 3 cups, I halved this recipe except for the amount of gelatin, left out the green onions, and finely chopped the shrimp in a food processor into more of a paste for the sake of making it look more smooth-textured like a real brain.

Make Your Own Halloween Cat Mask
Materials and Tools:
plastic eye mask
foam from waffle mattress pad
razor blade/scissors
soldering iron
black and gold spray paint
Apoxie Sculpt as a base material (liquid latex)
paintbrush and sponge
spray glue
spray gloss sealer
purple, pink and silver nail polish
cardboard box
dust mask
black permanent marker
stapler
felt, elastic, ribbon
fabric glue
Steps:
1. Place a store-bought plastic mask onto a piece of foam from a waffle mattress pad. Trace the outline of the mask on the foam with a permanent black marker.
2. Sketch the eyes, nose, and mouth and face patterns on the foam.
3. Cut out the foam pieces. Sculpt each piece with scissors before gluing onto the plastic mask.
4. Glue the sculpted pieces on the mask with fabric glue.
5. With a soldering iron or wood burner, burn scroll and line patterns onto the foam. Wear a dust mask or respirator.
6. Coat the mask with spray adhesive.
7. Sponge on liquid latex with a scrap piece of foam. Wait for it to dry.
8. Coat the Halloween mask with spray adhesive again.
9. Wear a dust mask. Place the mask in a cardboard box. Spray paint the entire piece black. Allow to dry.
10. Mist the Halloween cat mask with gold spray paint.
11. Apply purple, pink and silver metallic fingernail polish to add highlights to the eyes, mouth and cheeks.
12. Spray a gloss sealer all over the mask.
13. Remove the existing elastic strap from the mask.
14. Staple white elastic to each side.
15. Tie a ribbon on one side, where the elastic is attached. The other side is tied when it is put on to wear. This is a decorative element to cover the elastic strap.
16. Cut felt to fit inside the cat mask for comfort.
17. Glue felt on the inside of the mask for a nice finished look for your Halloween cat mask.
Halloween Cat Mask designed by Lyn Marie Neuenfeldt from Milwaukee, Wis.
Ever since Lyn Marie’s grandfather took her to see a horror movie at the age of 5, monsters and monster masks have fascinated her. One time, she tried to cast a plaster mask on her brother, but he ended up in the emergency room with doctors removing the plaster from his face. She now happily works as a special effects artist in Milwaukee, specializing in monsters.
